Story from Aulia Nur Amalia - AFS, Stavanger, Norwegia

Hello from Norge!

Halo! Yay it's been 2 months I am in Norway, and I think it's time to tell you some stories. I kind of confused what I want to write because I have loads of stories to tell. Then I will separated some subjects it will a lot more easier to understand, so here we go

Family

I live in Stavanger it´s 300 km from Oslo. I feel so lucky to live in Stavanger, because it was a beautiful city. I have 2 families in here, first I live in Revheim for the two weeks, it's about 6 km from Stavanger. I have 1 host sister here she is now 13 years old. Oh ya I supposed to have 2 host sisters but one of them is  with AFS in Mexico now. They are so funny, even my host sister not speaking much because of the language but at least we do many things together, like playing, cooking and the other stuff, I love them!

And then as per scheduled, after 2 weeks, I have moved to my real host family in Stavanger. At this time I'm so confused because in one side I start to loving my welcome family and the other side I'm SOOOO excited to meet my real host family. So here I am, I have 1 little host sister, she is still a baby, 9 months old and she is so cute. My father working in a several jobs. He is a journalist, a musician, and working for some website, while my mother working for "Stavanger Komunne". Ah well anyway I love them so so much, we have a lot of funny things happens every day.

School life

I'm attending Bergeland VindergÃ¥nde Skole, it's a public high school in Stavanger, it's about 2,3 km from my house. I usually walk to school but since the winter start and it's so cold, I decide to take the bus hehe. In here the study program are divided by 7 programs Fagskole (school): Studiespesialisering (study specialization), Form giving (STF), Bygg og anlegg (Construction), Helse og social (Health care), Medier og kommunikasjon (media and communication), and Tilrettel og topplæring (Facilitated and state learning). I'm attending Form giving, it's an art and design in the VG2 (2nd grade).

At school we can't choose the subject we want, but in here, I have Matematikk, Geografi, Historie, Samfunn (Community/Social), Norsk, Physical Education, Kunst (Art), and Design costum. I supposed to have foreign language (Fransk, Spansk, and Tysk (german)) subject to be taken but they said that Norsk is already a foreign language for me, so they allow me not taken any foreign language. I have some good friends at school. They are so nice to me, they always translate the things that I don't understand. Matematikk is still my favorite subject because it's the way too easy for me. But when it comes to a sentences question, the challenge is for translating. Art and Design subject is something new for me. So far, it was sooooooooo fun to making some art, and making some costumes. I have already made 2 costumes in my first 2 months, first is Peplos (Greece Costume) and second is making some dress from plastic.

My school is start from 08.15am and finished in different time, on Monday and Wednesday I finished at 15.10pm; Tuesday at 14.20pm; Thursday at 12.10pm and I finished at 13.10pm on Friday. There is no extracurricular in my school, so we must to search activity outside after school if we want to. For now I am joining a choir club and unffortunately in my choir club there are only 2 girls comes from my class. I think to make friends it will be a lot easier with joining the club after school.

Friends
In here I feel really living in an international environment because I have friends from all over the world. My friends in school are from Vietnam, Poland, and Norway of course. And from AFS in my chapter we are coming from Italy, Hongkong, Japan, Thailand, and Turkey. In my AFS region we have come from German, Brazil, Chile, France, Dominican Republic, USA and China.

I'm so happy because of I'm the only one from Indonesia. My friends always asking about Indonesia, when I wear a Batik dress they love it and so excited. And when they invited me to a Halloween party I try to dress up as 'kuntilanak' and tell them this is a unique local ghost from Indonesia.

They said a Norwegian people are cold, but I think not that cold. They are only shy to talk at the first time. My first day at school they already ask so many things about me and Indonesia, maybe some of them are afraid to speak English, but when I try to speak Norwegian, they become so different person, they are so kind.

Food

I LOVE SALMON!! Oh my god they have the best salmon in here, it's the most delicious salmon I ever eat. Sometimes I eat it for breakfast or lunch and my favorite salmon menu is a smoked salmon.

Then,  they have a cheese called 'Brun ost' it's a brown cheese made from caramel. I would say it has different taste, it's a cheese but it's sweet. I only try it once.

'Kvikk lunsj' they said this is a typical Norsk snack, yes it is! It's a chocolate snack or something like this. To me, this is so delicious! This is one of my favorite snacks.

Another typical Norsk meal is Pizza Grandiosa, it's a frozen pizza, I don't know about the taste because I never try it before, maybe someday I will try.

But anyway I think food is not a big problem for me because I will eat anything in front of me.

Since in Norway I started to love cooking because we usually cook something for dinner or lunch.  We can go out for diner sometimes but believe me, eating at restaurant was so expensive. And because of that I usually bring my ”Matt pake” to school. it´s a lunch meal package to be eaten at school break. And the menu usually bread.

Finally, I would like to thank to all persons in associate with my AFS journey start from the begining until I can be here.
