Sending Story: Nabila Short Stay in Denmark

MY WONDERFUL ONE MONTH IN DENMARK
In October 2016 I had a wonderful experience to join a student exchange program to Denmark under the AFS program arrangement. It was my first time to go abroad so I was quite nervous. Such a dream come true for me to feel how I become a student in another country. Feel the differences especially the school system, the weather and the many new friends from other other parts of the world is a valuable experience for me.
Exploring Copenhagen was the first week’s schedule , I  visited New Harbour, National Museum, the little Mermaid Statue and many more. It was fantastic to explore this city. In the second week I stayed at Ranum Efterskole College. Its a cool school! Here I lived in a dormitory and I had to live in one room with five other students. That was my first time to share my bedroom, but it was enjoyable. My room mates were Thea, Signe, Ellen, Julie, and Luna they were great friends. They accepted and treated me like a family. Sharing our stories,  chit-chating, and playing games together. It was so much fun!

In the third week we had autumn break, so the students had to go back to their families. Luckily, I  stayed with a very lovely family in Sonderholm near Aalborg. This family consists of three members:  Christian  my host-dad, Michelle  my host-mom, and Christine my host  sister. They are very kind people. Almost everyday they took me to travel around the city and also took me to Flensburg in the German part, to go shopping! Why do people go to Germany for shopping? It is because in Germany the prices are lower than in Denmark. Moreover they took me to Skagen which was a place where we can see the two sea, so amazing!. My host-parents really like cooking, so I got to know new menus such as Chicken & Dumplings and Apple Pie - they were so good. I was blessed to have the three of them as my host-family in Denmark.

The fourth week I went back to Ranum and started the classes. I took Danish class, Business class, English class, Global Perspective class, and PE class. They were very interesting subjects. In this week I also tried new activities: riding and climbing. Yes, Horse Riding!. Those activities were fun and challenging at the same time. During this week too, I had a chance to present about Indonesia and also showed a traditional dance, Tari Topeng. It was such an honor for me that I did that.
All of that experiences have influenced me to a be a better person. Just be brave to try new things, because we won’t know it if we haven’t tried it. So be yourself and always try to improve your capability. Remember, opportunities may never come twice to you, so accept all of the chances that you have!
